In December 2021, an Uzbek teenager virtually unknown to the general public was crowned world rapid chess champion, beating along the way Carlsen, Nepomniachtchi and Caruana. That kid was Nodirbek Abdusattorov, the great star of Uzbekistan’s new chess wave and one of the young players with the greatest upside on the planet.

Who is Abdusattorov

He was born on 18 September 2004 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. A child prodigy, he obtained the Grandmaster title at 13 and quickly became the great prospect of a country experiencing a genuine chess boom.

World champion at 17

The moment that launched him to world fame came in 2021, when he was crowned world rapid champion at just 17. In a tournament that brought together the entire elite, he beat in the tiebreak and along the way players like Carlsen, Nepomniachtchi and Caruana.

That a teenager defeated the best in the world was one of the year’s biggest surprises and introduced him to the world as an extraordinary talent.

The Uzbek golden generation

Abdusattorov leads a golden generation that has turned Uzbekistan into a chess power. The great collective milestone came in 2022, when the young Uzbek team surprisingly won gold at the Chess Olympiad, ahead of traditional powers.

That triumph confirmed the Central Asian country as one of the great emerging powers in world chess, with Abdusattorov — already established in the top 15 — as its great star. It also represents the geographic diversification of elite chess, no longer concentrated only in Europe, Russia or India.

His chess DNA

In our chess DNA system, Abdusattorov represents the young aggressive competitor profile: aggression, good tactics and remarkable composure in rapid games, where he decides in seconds. If your GM twin is Abdusattorov, your strength lies in dynamic play and the nerve to beat the best without being intimidated; your chess has the energy and boldness of the new generation.
