Who is Svidler

He was born on 17 June 1976 in Saint Petersburg. He became a Grandmaster young and quickly established himself as one of the best players in Russia. His first Russian championship came in 1997, followed by seven more, a record that makes him the player with the most national titles in modern-era Russia.

In 2014 he reached his peak of 2765 rating.

The king of the Grünfeld

The Grünfeld Defense is one of the most complex and ambitious openings in chess. Svidler has made it his personal weapon for more than two decades, contributing theoretical novelties and beating world champions with it. He is, by consensus of the chess community, the greatest Grünfeld expert of all time.
