Who is Zhu Chen
She was born on 16 March 1976 in Wenzhou, China. Trained within the Chinese system, she followed in Xie Jun’s footsteps and became one of the country’s best players. In 2001 she won the Women’s World Championship, China’s third consecutive title.
She reached her peak of 2548 ELO in 2003.
From China to Qatar
Her life took a turn when she married Qatari GM Mohammed Al-Modiahki and moved to Qatar. She switched federations and began representing a country with no chess tradition. It was a courageous decision that made her an ambassador for chess in a region where the game was growing.
