Who is Pähtz

She was born on 8 January 1985 in Erfurt, daughter of the player and coach Thomas Pähtz. She grew up in chess and represented Germany from junior categories. She has been Germany’s number 1 among women for years and a multiple national champion.

The first GM

In 2022, after decades of competing at the highest level, Pähtz finally earned the Grandmaster title (GM, not WGM), becoming the first German woman to do so. It was a historic moment for German chess.
